Rehabilitation
Physical therapy for your pet.
In a human hospital, rehabilitation experts are called physical therapists. In the world of veterinary medicine, they are called veterinary rehabilitation professionals. And pets, just like people, can suffer lingering effects from an injury or surgical procedure. By addressing the nagging aches and pains that slow down your pet, physical rehabilitation is an essential part of pets feeling better, playing better and living better.
Rehabilitation is provided to pets by veterinarians and veterinary technicians who are specially trained and certified in the anatomy and biomechanics of animals. Rehab professionals use a variety of methods to improve the range of your pet’s joint motion; improve overall muscle mass, strength and stamina; speed post-surgical recovery time; and ease pain due to injury or disease.
And it works! Whether the patient is an older pet with arthritis or a patient recovering from spinal surgery, studies show physical therapy speeds recovery and improves strength and mobility.
After a consultation with your pet’s veterinarian and a review of your pet’s medical history, medications and lifestyle, our rehabilitation professional will examine your pet’s range of joint motion and muscle girth, perform a gait analysis, and examine the injured area. The findings from the consultation and examination will be used to create a treatment plan designed expressly to return your pet to optimal health. Your pet may benefit from cryotherapy or heat therapy, therapeutic exercises, treadmill exercise, massage, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, phonophoresis or therapeutic ultrasound.
